If a plumber charges some money for their whole service then that is called flat rate but if he charges on hourly basis then calculation of total service charge is done in different way. If you want to test a plumber on his knowledge, see if he can explain the problems and possible solutions to you in a way that you understand them before he begins working. If he can teach it to you too then he must know what he is talking about because it is impossible to teach something you don’t know.

No doubt all of the companies will claim that they can do the job in a better way but you need to be wise while making the decision. Check the way they treat their customers and also check if they are providing any guarantee of their work.

An efficient plumber should not only have good experience but he should also have all the required tools for the job. Along with experience, tools such as video feeds, jetting equipment and company trucks are also very important for getting the plumbing job done.

You can also get many plumbing resources online. It will help you doing your job faster as you don’t have to go to the plumbing stores and the things will be delivered to your house. These are some things that you can check for choosing an efficient plumber out of hundreds of plumbers.

But there are many benefits in switching from a common place hot water heater to one that is solar-powered.

If you want to make your home green then installing a solar water heater is an excellent choice. Solar water heater is operated through a free of cost resource (sunlight) which does not lead to environmental pollution. It also saves electrical energy and natural gas for future use.

Now-a-days every one of us is looking for ways of saving money. In this scenario, installing a solar hot water heater is very beneficial. Initially, you may find it an expensive deal but later you will realize that its installation is very cost effective as it pays for itself over a couple of years. After installation, a solar heater does not cost you much and you can save your monthly utility bills like this and your money would be recovered in few years of time.

You may assume that since you are residing in an area that is very cold therefore, a solar water heater can not be installed there. But it is a wrong concept, as a result of good technological advances of solar energy collection, you’ll be able to utilize these systems no matter what climate you live in.

The best part about solar hot water heaters is that they are very simple. They involve collecting energy from sun and then circulating it. There are some completely different varieties of solar hot water systems that use different strategies of functioning. Generally there are three different solar energy collection strategies that can be employed by these solar hot water heaters.

The three modes of collecting solar heat for heating water are: flat plate collectors (or solar panels), evacuated tube solar collectors that use rows of glass tubes connected to a fin that includes a coating which absorbs solar energy and integral collector storage system which heats water as it passes through the collector.

According to climatic conditions, different circulation systems are used. In case water freezing does not occur in your pipes then heaters with a direct circulation system is a good choice. It heats water on collection before it is circulated into your home. However, in case you are living in a colder climate then solar water heaters with an indirect circulation system will be good for you.

Therefore, purchase a solar water heater today and start living a greener life and help your environment. This will also help you in saving money on your monthly utility bills.

How To Do Roll Roofing ?

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Two popular known roofing systems are roll roofing and the built up roofing. A produce of asphalt made in the roll shape is roll roofing. This roofing is not just economical than the shingled roofing but also needs very less time in laying. It is also called as rolled roofing.

For the effective laying of this roofing system, one needs to consider the following points. This roofing can be installed by the self and doesn’t need employing any roofer. Having measured the length of the roof we size a width of the product which can easily be handled. It can be of about 3 feet. This is to be installed along the edge of the roof.

Another piece of the same measurement is now kept over the first one. This should overlap the previous laid piece by about two inches and should be fixed in place by nailing. This should go on till the time we reach the top. The same style is adopted for installing at other end also. A metal strip is also laid on the edges of the roof to rid the water from damaging the roof. This is known as drip edge and it is nailed every 6 inches.

Cut two strips from the roll roofing, each measuring 18 inches in width by the length of your roof and lay them width by the width of your roof. Apply the roofing cement around the edge of the roof. Lay the cut strips of rolled roofing along the edges of the roof so as to cover over the cement. Nail the strips down.

Take the roofing roll up to the roof and start laying it down starting from the bottom side. Have a helper by your side to assist you in holding the sheet at the other side of the roof. Cover the entire roof horizontally.

Lay the roll down and cut the rolled out length. Before nailing down, adjust the roofing material to ensure it aligns with the roof edge. Apply roofing cement underneath the edges of the roofing material and fix to the under laid. Nail down this first piece, nailing along the bottom and sides every 3 inches.

With a chalk, mark a line 33 inches above the first piece. Align the second piece with the chalk line. See that an overlap of 3 inches is there. Give a cement coating and nail it. The same process is to be repeated for laying it at the other side of the roof.

Lay a strip on the peak of the roof, centering the piece so no seam runs along the tip of the peak. Glue and nail down this piece along both sides and edges.

Scott Rodgers is a fine expert who has been authoring on roofing for a long time now. His skill has given encouragement to a host of workers, varying from White Oak Roofers (Need one?click here!) to Baldwin Park Roofers (Need one?click here!).

How To Hire An Electrician And Not Get Ripped Off

Monday, May 17th, 2010

An electrician is a person who repairs the electrical wiring and the electrical appliances etc. their services are not very often needed, but in case required, it is very essential to look for a right one. It is more difficult to find a right electrician if the services are needed for repairing the already laid wiring in houses. Their services are also sought to construct, add, remodel and to fix electrical outlet and lighting etc.

Having a trained electrical fitter is not that difficult as compared to other artisans such as carpenter or a plumber. Thus for engaging an electrician we should consider certain points. First determine the work to be carried out by electrician.

In order to hire the electrician make reference to the yellow pages. Also you can contact the contractor referral for this. In addition to this, you can approach the local electricians present in the locality and near by.

Let the electrician first survey the work to be done and settle the labor. A list of the work to be undertaken with proper specification should be made available to them. See that the license and insurance of the cover of the workmen is in order and is updated. A certificate of insurance must be obtained from them before the start of the project or before making any payment. Time they need to complete the project should also be talked about.

An electrician should be licensed and carry valid insurance. Verify that both are active and in good standing before starting a job. Damage done can be severe with improper wiring so this is very important. If an electrician can not provide you with both, do not hire them. There is too much at stake. Get copies of their license and insurance certificate.

We should confirm from them, where they have worked in the past. Confirm form their past customers about the quality of the work they have done. Do they, after completion of the project promptly attend to the call for any problem? If the answer of the past customer is positive, the workmen can be hired.

Your selection of the electrician should be consulted about the specifications provided to hire any ratification etc. The addition or the modification to be done would require any change in the power connection.

Execute a contract specifying the work to be done, cost, payment schedule, start date and estimated completion date. This will help protect you if anything goes wrong.
