The first step to finding a job is creating a resume and sending it to potential employers. The second step to finding a job is landing an interview with companies that have viewed your resume and find you a viable candidate for a position. The interview is the first time interviewers will meet their candidates face-to-face and it is important to know everything you can about doing your best in an interview. After the interview is over, the impression you made during the interview is the most important piece to landing the job.
There are many ways to make a good impression on a job interview. Here are 5 tips to help any job interview go smoothly:
1. Do some prep work. Before the day of your interview, make sure you have all the requested materials ready. Items such as a resume, a list of references, a portfolio and a copy of any/all pertinent certifications should be set aside where you will remember to bring them with you. Or, place them in your car the night before the interview.
2. Know where you are going. Print directions and check a map to make sure you know exactly how to get to the interview location.
3. Know where you’re going. Having good directions and a back up map or GPS device will help you to remain calm as you head to the interview. Make sure you know how to get to the interview location and have the phone number of company or contact person available in case of any unforeseen obstacles.
4. Be aware of your attire. It is always a good idea to invest in a well-made suit as you begin your job search. Always dress appropriately and conservatively on an interview; you cannot go wrong with a suit for any job interview. For men, it is important to be clean shaven and for women, moderate makeup is a must.
5. It may sounds like common sense, but it is important to be prepared. Make sure you print necessary materials and fill out any requested forms the night before the interview and put them in a place where you will be sure to bring them with you. Being as prepared as possible during the interview shows your future employer that you are trustworthy and reliable.
Interviewing for any job can be nerve-racking. Any potential employer wants to pick the best possible candidates for a position, and all job candidates need to make sure they make the best possible impression on the interviewers. Having confidence and a few tips under your belt is a good way to ease the stress of finding a job and landing an interview. The more research you do into how best to interview, the easier it becomes to put your best foot forward and land your dream job.
