Efficient Sample Cover Letters For Your Job Search Success

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Finding a new job may be an overwhelming task. The unstable economic environment may not help matters either. Competition is as tough as ever, and applications for one opening have, in most cases, doubled. This is why being able to create a successful resume is essential. You may also want to take a look at sample cover letters in order to get an idea on how to get one done.

Although you may already know what purpose a resume serves, but may be wondering what exactly a cover letter does. This is an introductory letter that introduces yourself and your resume to potential employers. There is a thin line between getting an interview and not, and this line is usually the introductory letter in addition to the resume. Keep in mind that not all job descriptions will ask for a cove letter. Even if it is not mentioned, take the extra step by including one.

Keep in mind that this introductory letter is not a place to repeat what is found on your resume. It is a space for you to introduce yourself and interests to a prospective employer. It is also a space to let this potential employer experience your clear and thought-out writing skills.

An introductory letter should be personalized to the company/position you are applying for. If you are applying to more than one position in the same field, you can create a generic format and just personalize the company name and manager (when applicable).

Salary is often a tricky subject to deal with. If the job description does not specify a salary request, than it is better to deal with the pay issue once you actually have a follow-up interview. If the job description does require a salary request, always give a range as opposed to a particular number. Do not scare a potential employer off with your request.

It is helpful when you keep your cover letter short and to the point. The people reading your information do not have a lot of time to read lengthy reports. Keep your format clean and neat. Do not abbreviate words but completely spell out any words, including addresses.

The introductory paragraph should clearly state which position you are interested in. If the job description has a job title and number, include both. You may be sending in a unsolicited resume, in this case ask for possible openings in a particular area of interest.

In the middle paragraph you may consider beginning by briefly stating education (note, briefly because education will be addressed on resume). Go on to say something that is not mentioned in the resume like your interest in the company, or in the particular field you are applying for. You may also want to briefly explain some of your skill sets that will make you a good match for the position.

The final paragraph will call your reader to action. You can do this gracefully by suggesting that your schedule is flexible for an interview time and date. You will want to leave your phone number and email address as a push to action for the prospective employer. There are a number of sample cover letters available online to give you a clear view of formatting.

If you need to make the perfect resume cover letters to get the career you been waiting for, you need to find a sample cover letters that can give you a idea on how they need to look like. Many websites can help you in this area.

Business Opportunities – Time To Strike Back

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Individuals really learn how secure job security is in the midst of an economic downturn. Unfortunately, a high percentage of people around the world have been given this painful test. Unfortunately, they discovered that their jobs were not as safe as they may have once thought, and were given confirmation with a lay off. Nonetheless, lay offs often come back to agonize the companies who terminate the employment of valuable employees.

Many of these talented individuals who were laid off will look to explore business opportunities in their area of expertise. Not only will many of those individuals be unwilling to go back to their former employers when economic times recover, they will also become direct competitors of their former employers, cutting into their market share.

Often times it takes an event such as The Great Recession to reveal to individuals that job security is nothing more than a convenient mirage. Thus, such individuals are forced to fend for themselves in the open market. This is when they realize how talented and capable they really are, and turn these talents into income opportunities.

To the individual who is just stepping into the spectrum of business opportunities for the first time, the venue is massive. However, every entrepreneur should realize that they are best suited for an opportunity which is familiar to their existing skill set. Therefore, if a person came from a background in web design, the proper fit for them is to create a web design company. It is quite common for individuals to seek business opportunities in which they have prior experience, or a burning desire to become involved in.

Another style of company which is available to individuals is the virtual store. This is where Internet business owners create a website, and sell their services or products to global consumers. When compared to the physical style of residual income business opportunities, entrepreneurs will find that the initial startup cost vary greatly online. However, the competition level dramatically increases.

A new option related to residual income business opportunities has been found with blogging for profit. This venue totally abandons the traditional concept of selling goods or services, and relies on the writing abilities of the individual. In this atmosphere, an individual writes a blog which generates high levels of consumer traffic on a regular basis. The idea of writing a blog may seem simple. However, it draws attention concerning how an individual will receive financial benefits from writing about their opinions, or regarding topics of interest. Some bloggers go the route of requiring a membership to their blog. Unfortunately, visitors will rarely pay for information when several other individuals are offering the same information and opinions for free. The way that these individuals profit from blogging is with the high volume of traffic which their blog generates. When your blog is able to maintain a high traffic volume, advertisers begin to take interest in your blog. Advertisers are who make blogging profitable for you.

For advertisers, the opportunity to promote their products or services on a popular site represents a positive financial investment. For bloggers, advertisers will contact them directly to offer advertising plans that allow ads to be placed on or in your blog. The business opportunities are rampant when you own a high traffic blog.

Sometimes negative events turn into Business Opportunities. Your time is now to get going with a Home Based Business which you can be proud of. Drop by and visit us at SOSComplete.com.

What Makes A Good Salesperson?

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

There comes a time in every consultant’s life when for some unknown reason they feel the need to document their thoughts on the defining characteristics of successful sales people. Well, now it’s my time.

This is a very challenging question to answer. We’re all biased and see the world through the lens of our own experience. No one persons view can ever compare to a rigorous scientific trial or experiment. But it certainly can add flavour and depth. Especially in a field where there haven’t been to many rigorous studies performed.

I’ve worked with salespeople from over 20 different countries – so at least my observations are based on a broad and diverse sample.

So here is my list of the top 4 characteristics of great salespeople.

1. Passion. It’s almost impossible to successfully sell a product or service you don’t really believe in and that you’re not really passionate about.

It’s sometimes joked that if you can fake sincerity you’ve got it made. But I’ve found that almost no one can fake real passion for what they sell. Somehow, some way, customers just pick up on it. What do you do if you’re not passionate about your products? Either get passionate (talking to customer about how they benefit from your product is a good start), get another product you can be passionate about, or get out of sales.

2. Likeability. Being liked is the foundation of being trusted. Its how relationships start.

Of course, it is possible to tryst someone without liking them. But it’s rare.

3. Resilience. Pretty much the only thing that can be guaranteed in sales is that you will face rejection. And often. Successful sellers just can’t afford to need everyone to love them. They need a think skin.

4. Willingness and Energy to Learn. The world is changing at an ever increasing pace. Successful salespeople must keep up with this. They must adapt to new technologies, new approaches to meet and build relationships with customer. And to keep learning.

So that’s my little shortlist. Passion, likeability, resilience and continuous learning. If you’ve got a good measure of each of these, you’ll be a great success in sales.
