Managing The Stress In Your Daily Life

All of us live in a hectic environment with the pace of the world rushing around us. None of us is immune from the constant struggle between quality time at home and the ever-present issues at work. Usually, the moment we have some time to ourselves, the first thing we want to do is collapse on the bed.

It is part of the modern human condition, the total absence of personal time. Due to this, everybody will have to cope with stress at one time or another. So, to try and stop this happening to you, you should follow these helpful and easy to follow pointers.

Music is considered by many to be healing and therapeutic. Take a few minutes out of your hectic day to relax into the soothing melodies of classical music or the lilting song of bossa nova tunes. Once your mind is at peace, you will find that your performance is more efficient and productive.

Or you could spend 20 minutes quietly meditating at bedtime, even though this sounds dull, it is the best way for your body and mind to wind done after the day. No matter what is ailing you, meditation is the perfect cure for long-term healthiness.

This might need a little more of your time but you only need to do this at least once a month. Head to your favorite spa salon and get yourself a treatment fit for a queen. This would probably be the only thing you would spend money on for the whole month so it better be worth it.

A cheaper option is to stay positive. Ok, you may be having a rough time with your job and the kids are giving you hell. It’s not going to make a difference moaning about it. Rather than going on about what is wrong with your world, why not make positive statements about how you will fix it.

If you let stress get to you, it will not only damage you physically, but it could ruin your personal life too. If you can manage it and overcome it, you will improve your entire life. Maybe you could read up on different methods, join a group, or talk to a medical expert, as these can all help ameliorate this horrible problem.

The above are just several ways you can manage stress and hopefully overcome it. Maybe one day you may come up with your own particular recipe for dealing with stress. Hopefully, for your sake, you do.

Are We Having Fun Yet? Exploring Adult Play Time

Are you, like many other Americans, logging more hours than there seem to be in a week? Do you find that you lack free time in your schedule? Stress is more prevalent than ever before, and the sources seem to be countless! Furthermore, we seem to be logging these extra hours not because of the overtime pay, but rather to ensure that we keep our jobs.

Think back to when you first fell in love, and the rush that you felt. You could probably stay up all night, eat nothing, and still feel content and full for weeks. Your love is what sustained you. This love is not only a massive adrenaline rush, but the ultimate in human caring and compassion.

Kindess can have a similar impact on humans. While nothing holds quite the power of a first love, research shows that positive and healthy work environments improve morale and productivity, and reduce turnover. However, not enough workplaces employ this philosophy. Too many employers wear down their employees to the limit and still expect optimal performance.

We can learn quite a bit about workplace performance simply by observing other countries. In Europe, “holiday” is practically a given. I have met quite a few European travelers who have upwards of six weeks of vacation a YEAR. In Asia, you may see coworkers exercising together at their workplace. And then there is the ever-popular ’siesta,’ an afternoon rest period adopted by many Latin countries.

My intent is to encourage you for the sake of you. I know, as well as anyone, there are many times in our lives when we must do what we must do, and that sometimes means logging long hours. I also know that we need to rest. We’re human. Our bodies have requirements. Thus, you should take a few moments for you, time to recuperate, time to recharge.

Even a quick getaway can prove to be rejuvenating. Try getting up early, and simply taking a stroll with a cup of coffee. Step away from the office for a few minutes, and take a walk. Try to take a mini vacation on the weekend, even if it is cheap. If you live on the coast, head for the hills. If you are a mountain dweller, hit the beach! Time away should be simple and easy to adjust to. We have our noses to the grindstone all too often, and we need little steps, to balance our time.

If you can, look into something bigger, perhaps something that pushes you out of the classic “comfort zone.” Use a local resource, like the Sierra Club, to plan a trip. Even better, consider an adult camp (just like a youth summer camp, but for – you’ve got it – adults!) Step outside, meet new people, push yourself physically, and let the inner child in you come back out to play.

Youth camps are popular already, and family camps are starting to gain momentum, so who is to say that you cannot invest in an adult camp? There is something cathartic about getting out in nature – something inspiring and healthy. So step outside of the proverbial box, do something different and enjoy the benefits of summer camp that you will undoubtedly find. Your new friends are waiting…

It took some serious warning signs before I made the change for myself, including a severe loss of family time, a hundred-pound weight gain and a little “heart thing.” I finally had the clear wake-up call that I needed, but I cannot forget that many of us are still working long hours and going the extra mile. But why, exactly, are we doing this to ourselves?

Do not be discouraged when you begin carving time out for yourself. Even setting time aside is a step – and a worthwhile one. If you feel that you are struggling, just relax and ENJOY the process.

On a personal note, I’ve been taking the time to relax and get healthy, slowly but surely. I’ve even taken some of my own advice. For all of the individuals in the media who are telling us to do certain things and avoid others, there are not enough people reminding us to do things for ourselves. So go take care of YOU – no matter how small that act is. I spent 40 minutes today riding my bike with my teenage daughter, and it was the best 40 minutes of my weekend. It was fun, free, and enjoyable. The rest of the weekend, I’ve been on the computer!

Tips For Keeping Calm During Meetings

We all have to attend meetings which we know will be stressful, or difficult, and once you’re in there it can be hard to keep your cool and stay calm. But it’s important that you do, so that you and the business can get the most out of the meeting, so here are some top tips which I find help.

Keeping calm prior to the meeting is probably the best thing you can do, as it provides you a great foundation and you go into the meeting feeling calm and not harrassed. This can be difficult to do if the meeting is later on in the day, but things which help are arriving on time, having five minutes outside first so you can get away from the days stresses, or for some a quick bout of meditation is very successful.

Making sure you have had enough to eat and drink before the meeting is also really important, as if you’re anything like me, how full you are is directly related to how patient you are. So if you are full you will be less likely to snap, aren’t adding more problems to you woes and are more likely to stay focused.

So you’ve got your pre meeting routine sorted, but what to do once you’re in the boardroom? The best piece of advice I could give is listen, listen, and listen. It seems obvious, but the benefits of listening carefully to what is said are threefold. Firstly it means you are fully focused on understanding their argument, secondly listening and not talking gives you time to calm down if you start to feel angry and thirdly it means you appear cool and collected, which often has a knock on effect on how you actually feel.

Once whoever is speaking has finished you can then make your counter argument or raise the issues you have, but make sure this is done in a calm tone. Speak at a good volume, slowly and clearly as this will make what you’re saying more valid, meaning others present should listen more carefully. This will also reduce the likelihood of interruptions-meaning you have less to contend with and so are more likely to keep your cool.

Follow these tips the next time you have a meeting and you should remain calm and professional, which is great for you, your company and your health.
